Branding

How do you decide if its time to rebrand?

Full question
I run what is essentially a YouTube channel about women's wrestling. The brand is called The British Bombshells.
The current branding was created by a designer and it took influence from the Suicide Girls logo and the previous Angel Wings graphic elements from the original branding.

The idea originally was to move into lifestyle/clothing and gym wear but for lots of reasons it didn't happen.

Now I think the branding is slightly outdated if we were to get back on track with what we had planned, but how can you tell if it is worth a rebrand?
Answer
I checked out your channel — the content is just the bomb!

When should you consider rebranding? Looking at classic business strategies, there are a few key reasons:

1. Declining performance. The business is losing clients, revenue is dropping, and stagnation is setting in.

2.Targeting a new audience. For instance, if the company used to focus on cat food but now wants to appeal to dog owners.

3. Mergers and acquisitions. In this case, you need to unify different company cultures and product lines under one brand.

4. Increased competition. New players are entering the market, or established companies are changing tactics, and your business may start to fall behind.

5. Negative image. This is complex: on the one hand, rebranding can help refresh the company’s reputation, but on the other, negativity can transfer to the new brand. It’s essential to address the root causes of any negativity before rebranding, or you might consider skipping it altogether.

By rebranding, I mean a significant shift in the company’s direction — changing the name, brand identity, or strategy. If the changes are mainly about refreshing the look without major shifts, that’s more of a restyling.

From your question, it seems you might be at the stage of deciding whether to update the style or not. Here’s what I’d focus on in your case:

1. Does the current style support the company’s goals?

2. How does your company look compared to competitors? Sometimes, a brand may look outdated next to others, which can deter your audience.

If any of these questions give you pause, it might be time for some updates.
