How important is showing face and your background for your B2C app marketing?

Full question
How important is showing your face for app branding?

I am building advanced nutrition app for those with special needs such as kidney issues, fodmap, keto etc.

I love meal preps, healthy life, gym and bio-hacking. But I don’t have formal education or degrees. One of my loyal beta tester asked to share more info about ppl behind the app, but I am not really keen to show my face. I love meal prep, cooking everything but not that I maintain the most aesthetic body, nor do I have influencer personality, nor do I speak fluent english and good on camera.

For health and fitness, it’s important to have the fit and healthy look, I don’t have it, but I am confident with my app quality. I am under some pressure because I also feel like the users would be curious on how and why I am making such app.

But I am always afraid of being a target for social mockery, abandonment, and also insults (I mean I am quite a troll but I know there are many others online as well. How important is it to show my face in website or smth? Surely other bug nutrition apps don’t quite rely on founder’s face or personal branding, do they?
Answer
Showing your face is not a mandatory requirement for the successful marketing of your B2C application. Many products thrive and develop without showcasing the team or the founder’s face, focusing instead on the values and quality of the product.

Of course, having a personal brand or a recognizable face can make marketing and communication easier, as a real person adds a human aspect to the narrative. This can earn more trust from users. However, it’s entirely possible to successfully promote your product without it.

Here are some strategies that might help:
  • Focus on the unique features and benefits of your application, especially how it helps people with special dietary needs.
  • Share the mission and values of your project so users understand your motivation and passion for nutrition.
  • Utilize user reviews and success stories to demonstrate the effectiveness of your application and build trust.
  • Collaborate with professionals in the fields of nutrition and healthcare who can support and recommend your application.
  • Create valuable content related to nutrition and health to position yourself as an expert in this area.
By doing so, you can effectively promote your application without showing your face, while still building trust and loyalty among your audience.

And it’s even better to showcase your satisfied customers—this will work 100 times better than the founder’s face. Because people love to hear when the conversation is about them.
